Spain’s David Villa: That second goal against Poland was something out of a video game

Continuing with our (well, my) nearly non-stop World Cup coverage! Spain beat Poland yesterday 6-0 in Murcia. It was an awesome display, and an illustration of why Spain are the favorites to win the tournament. And yes, there is a tech connection~! That second goal, my word…

The goal, embedded here for your viewing pleasure, was called by Barcelona striker David Villa “something out of a video game.” And even then you’d still probably need like the Xavi or Iniesta of video gaming to pull off a goal like that in FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer. I sure as heck couldn’t. The fanciest I get with my soccer gaming is maybe chipping the goalkeeper, or a one-two pass here and there.

This is not the first time that professional footballers have compared their handiwork to their video game counterparts. You’ll recall that Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola (a former player himself, don’t forget) called Leo Messi a “PlayStation player” after a Champions League game against Arsenal back in April.

Tresor Mputu | TP Mazembe players aggressing an Ethiopian Referee (Kigali)

Players of TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo violently aggressed an Ethiopian referee to the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2010 match against APR FC in Rwanda.

A bunch of them came running after the referee just wanting to hit him with no mercy. The referee fell down and some of them [TP Mazembe players] wanted to ponder his head.

This is shameful. The match ended at the 40th minute with APR FC (Rwanda) 1-0 TP Mazembe.

Two-man bicycle kick!!!!!!!

In last Sunday's Argentina Primera Division match between Gimnasia La Plata and Boca Juniors, something happened that probably hasn't happened before and we probably won't see again. After the ball deflected off a Boca defender, Gimnasia's Sebastian Romero and Marco Perez both executed bicycle kicks at the same time to score a goal. Trying to figure the odds on both players executing overhead kicks in unison to put the ball in the back of the net is enough to make your head hurt, especially considering Perez had to scramble to his feet in order to get there.

Gimnasia La Plata ended up winning the match 1-0 and instead of being credited with half a goal each, Perez was the one given sole credit and upon closer inspection, it looks like he at least got more of the ball than Romero (maybe?). Plus, he's the one who celebrated the goal first, which is nine-tenths of the law.

Our friends over at Eurosport are cleverly calling it a "tandem" since that's what you call a two-person bicycle. I think I'll go with that, too. Or maybe just "wow" for short.

The Terry-Bridge Hand Shake That Didn't Happy

After a week of speculation, Wayne Bridge WASN'T ready to forgive John Terry ahead of Manchester City's match against Chelsea.

The player avoided shaking hands with the Chelsea captain, following weeks of allegations of an affair between Terry and Bridge's ex-girlfriend.

The scandal resulted in John Terry's England captaincy being removed and Wayne Bridge taking himself out of the running for a place in England's World Cup squad.

England boss Fabio Capello confirmed to Sky News that it isn't all over for Wayne Bridge and the England squad.
